The Airport Leipzig/Halle, also known as Schkeuditz Airport,is now only referred to as Leipzig/Halle Airport. This was decided end of 2008 with the objective to develop a better marketing profile worldwide. The airport is located between the cities of Leipzig and Halle (Saale) on the grounds of the town of Schkeuditz in Saxony. The airport started its operation on April 18,1927 and is above all known internationally for its airfreight traffic. With reference to the number of passengers, the airport is on place 14 in Germany. Within the airfreight section, however, it takes second place behind Frankfurt am Main, fifth place in Europe and 26th place worldwide (as per 2011).
